A few months ago I hipped y’all to this movie when the first trailer for it was released. I said it then and I am saying it again this movie looked EPIC!
I was anxious to see how the dark twist on this fairy tale classic would turn out. I can not say I was all to thrilled when I heard that a movie with Kristen Stewart was coming……AGAIN, but once I saw the trailer for the movie I was stoked. Everyone knows the Disney fairy tale version of Snow White but this movie tries to go in the direction of the Brothers Grimm tales.
Snow White is the apple of her father’s eye, but after the death of his wife the kingdom is invaded by a dark army and the king and his soldiers ride to dispel the army. After defeating the army they find Ravenna (Charlize Theron) a supposed prisoner of the army. Entranced by her beauty the king marries her the very next day. On their wedding night Ravenna kills the king and takes his kingdom and Snow White (Kristen Stewart) hostage. After years of being locked away in the tower Snow White has come of age and is not the fairest in the land, according to Ravenna magic mirror consuming Snow White’s heart will make her immortal. Of course the story can’t end here so Snow White makes her dashing escape and the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) is dispatched to retrieve her.
The movie offer great visual effects and a potentially great story that seems to fall flat. There is a comic relief from the seven dwarves but mainly I was expecting more and it simply did not deliver. Charlize Theron played a stunning queen but many questions were left as to how she became this black-hearted queen. Small glimpses are given into her past but I really would have thought that anyone who was subjected to the supposed torment of her gift/curse would be a little more understanding to the female sex. Nevertheless I do give the film an A for effort but nothing more.
